The Myth of the Mental Health System

Psychiatry’s Mirror
Everything since The Conversation compounds into a very shitty problem. When a member of the system’s intended demographic has a negative or lackluster experience with it, there’s 3 layers of suppression waiting for them should they try using their voice; the perception of who they are as a human being, the perception of health “professionals”, and the perception of what the system itself is doing. The majority of these people can’t even pierce past perception 1.
When an entire service or system is allegedly built for & supposed to revolve around a specific group of individuals, the only individuals whose opinion holds the most weight by a significant margin is said group. Everyone seems to have forgotten this. For this chapter I’ve interviewed 45 people for their experiences with the system and what their views on it are. These interviews do not represent every single experience with the system, but they do provide a very meaningful look at the reality.
These interviews are mostly anonymous and will be presented as such with sequentially assigned numbers. All interviewees were essentially given the same prompt. Some of them were also questioned beyond just the system, and were asked about topics regarding mental illness in general.
Clicking a name or Anonymous Number below will take you to a dedicated page where the images will be presented. Not much additional text will be provided with these images; they will simply exist on their own for you to read. Some interviews were very short, others were extremely long. Majority were detailed. There are over 330 screenshots total across these 45 interviews. I advise going through these interviews in order, however it is not at all required.
Understandably, due to volume, you may not feel committed to finishing the entire chapter. Whenever you truly feel you’ve read enough is when you can proceed to the following chapter. I don’t want this chapter to hold you hostage or turn you off from the rest of Myth. General tags have been provided on each interview should you care to cherry pick the ones most relevant to you. “Deeper Conversation” refers to the individual and I also having conversations about various mental health topics in general. “Insurance” is a bit of a catch all regarding issues with money.
